私たちの原点：伝統は「革新」の連続である

京都には、1000年を超えて受け継がれてきた74品目もの伝統産業があります。しかし今、分業制の崩壊やライフスタイルとの乖離により、多くの技術が消えゆく危機にあります。

私たちは、単に古き良きものを守る「伝承」ではなく、常に新しい息吹を吹き込む「革新」こそが、伝統の正体であると考えます。伝統とは、過去から受け継いだ火を絶やさぬよう、常に新しい薪をくべ続ける挑戦の歴史なのです。

代表理事メッセージ：京都への「恩返し」として

「懐に飛び込んだら、実は心地よい場所だった」

東京に生まれ、大阪で育った私が、縁あって京都市役所に入庁したのは1986年のことでした。商工部長として中小企業支援に奔走し、下京区長として地域に寄り添う中で、私は観光ガイドには載っていない京都の「B面」、つまり温かい下町の人情や、職人たちのひたむきな気概に触れ、この街が大好きになりました。

長年、京都の人たちに支えられ、育ててもらった私にできる恩返しは何か。

それが、アート（ART）と伝統（TRADITIONAL）を掛け合わせ、今の暮らしに響く「新しいラグジュアリー」を提案する、ARTRAD KYOTOの設立でした。

工芸が、単なる「古いもの」から、現代の空間を彩り、人の心を震わせる「アート」へと進化する。その橋渡しをすることが、私の最後の仕事だと思っています。

2022年 | 一般社団法人ARTRAD KYOTOを設立。

Our Origin: Tradition is a Continuous Chain of Innovation

Kyoto is home to 74 officially designated traditional industries, with techniques passed down for over a millennium. Today, however, these crafts face an existential crisis as the traditional division of labor collapses and artisan populations age, leaving them disconnected from modern lifestyles.

We believe the true essence of tradition is not merely "preservation"—simply keeping things as they were—but "innovation," the constant infusion of new life into ancient forms. Tradition is a history of challenge: of constantly adding new wood to ensure the fire inherited from the past never goes out.

Message from the Founder: Giving Back to Kyoto

"Once I dove in, I found it to be a place of true belonging."

Born in Tokyo and raised in Osaka, I began my career at Kyoto City Hall in 1986. Through my work supporting small businesses as the Director of Commerce and later serving the community as the Mayor of Shimogyo Ward, I discovered the "B-side" of Kyoto—the warm humanity of the old neighborhoods and the unwavering spirit of the artisans not found in any guidebook. I fell in love with this city.

I asked myself: "How can I give back to the city that has supported and shaped me for so long?"

The answer was the founding of ARTRAD KYOTO. Our mission is to fuse Art and Traditional crafts to propose a "New Luxury" that resonates with contemporary life. My final mission is to serve as a bridge, evolving crafts from "old objects" into "works of art" that color modern spaces and move the human soul.
